What are the Jewel's sails made of? Are they of the same material/s as would have been found on a 9th century vessel?
The Jewel of Muscat has two types of sails: one set is made from woven palm mat, the other from cotton canvas. Both materials were used in the 9th century. We will try both types, to evaluate relative performance, handling and longevity.
